Ezra Bridger will appear throughout the entire second season of Ahsoka, a wider role than his Season 1 run, the character’s actor Eman Esfandi said at a convention panel. He shared the detail at SpaceCon San Antonio, relayed by attendees and reported by The Direct.
In the first season, Ezra surfaced only in the final three of eight episodes. His fate served as the mystery driving Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren across the galaxy to the planet Peridea, and his late arrival functioned as the season’s emotional payoff. The Season 1 finale brought him back to the main galaxy, reunited with Hera Syndulla, while Ahsoka and Sabine were left behind alongside the returning Grand Admiral Thrawn.
A full-season presence sets up Ezra as a frontline player in the conflict to come, as Bespin Bulletin noted from the same panel. Lucasfilm gave a first look at Esfandi’s updated Ezra at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025, showing the character in a New Republic uniform that mirrors his animated Star Wars Rebels design, a signal he will serve under Hera, now a New Republic general.
The series has been a long time coming. Lucasfilm did not greenlight a second season until January 2024, after the first was positioned closer to a limited series, as ScreenRant detailed. Filming began in the United Kingdom in April 2025, and showrunner Dave Filoni, since promoted to chief creative officer of Lucasfilm, has said the season is deep in editing. The eight-episode season retains most of the Season 1 cast, including Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Hayden Christensen.
The release window has also moved. Lucasfilm set a 2026 target at Star Wars Celebration Japan in 2025, a date later reaffirmed in Star Wars Insider, before the studio pushed the season to early 2027. Dawson confirmed the new window at Disney’s Upfront presentation in May 2026 and introduced a behind-the-scenes reel. The delay means 2026 will be the first year since 2019 without a live-action Star Wars series on Disney+, with the season instead slotting into Lucasfilm’s 2027 slate around the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
Disney has not announced a specific premiere date or released a full trailer. With marketing now expected later than once anticipated, Esfandi’s panel comments are among the more substantial Season 2 details to surface ahead of the 2027 debut.
