Star Wars Jedi 3 Rumor Teases Older Cal Kestis and Time Jump

Insider Tom Henderson says Respawn's next Star Wars game will age Cal Kestis and skip ahead in the timeline, though EA has announced nothing.

Star Wars Jedi 3 will reportedly feature an older Cal Kestis and a jump forward in its timeline, according to gaming insider Tom Henderson, though publisher Electronic Arts has not announced the game or confirmed any details.

The claim surfaced on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast and was reported this week by ScreenRant and The Gamer. Henderson said he was told about the project’s setting roughly a year ago and that the studio planned to age its protagonist. “Cal was going to be older in the game,” he said, adding that he was unsure how large any gap would be: “I don’t know if they’re doing like a little time jump.” Henderson said the character would not be aged so far that he leans on his lightsaber as a walking stick.

Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb offered similar reporting, as relayed by GamingBolt. Grubb said the third entry entered development soon after its predecessor shipped. “It went into production right away after the second one,” he said, describing a team that “wanted to do a trilogy.”

What an older Cal would change

Respawn Entertainment’s series follows Cal Kestis, a Jedi who survived Order 66, voiced by Cameron Monaghan, along with his droid companion BD-1. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, released April 28, 2023, took place five years after 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and ended with Cal reaching the hidden planet Tanalorr. A larger gap before the next game would set the story deeper into the Galactic Empire’s rule.

Commenters on the Reddit thread that spread the rumor welcomed the idea, with one writing that a time jump “sounds awesome” because the series has no “overarching story to conclude” that a gap would disrupt. Some speculated the sequel could move closer to the Battle of Yavin, the events of the original 1977 film, though no source has confirmed a date.

No official word from EA

Neither EA nor Respawn has revealed the game, its title, or a release window. Grubb’s account that work began shortly after Survivor shipped in 2023 would put development at roughly three years, which has led several reporters to expect an announcement before long. Until EA confirms it, the setting, the time jump, and Cal’s age remain unverified.
