GameStop is removing the points-rewards system from its $25-a-year Pro membership, according to an internal memo obtained by Kotaku, cutting one of the program’s main benefits while keeping the price the same. New members will stop earning points on July 15, and all unredeemed points will expire on August 15.
Pro members currently earn 2 percent back, or 20 points per dollar, on most purchases, and can redeem those points for discount coupons. The memo, sent to store employees this week, ends that system but leaves the membership’s other perks in place, including extra trade-in value, member discounts, free shipping, and extended returns, GameSpot reported.

GameStop has not announced the change in any public statement, and its Pro membership page advertises the plan at $25 a year. The company did not respond to Kotaku’s request for comment, leaving the internal memo as the only account of the change.
Some store employees objected to the decision. One urged members to cancel together, writing in messages reported by Kotaku, “If we ALL drop in PRO, they can’t blame any single store.”
The cut follows earlier reductions to the membership. GameStop raised the annual price by $10, to $25, when it overhauled the rewards program in 2023. The next year it shut down Game Informer, the gaming magazine long bundled with the membership, though the publication later relaunched under new ownership.

Members who renew before July 15 will keep earning points until that date, according to the memo, but their balances will be erased on August 15 regardless of when the points were earned.
